Roads update for Dingwall and Seaforth
Members of Highland Council’s Dingwall and Seaforth committee have been updated on the area roads capital programme.
At today’s meeting (Monday 26 May), members were asked to note the final budget allocation for Dingwall and Seaforth area for 2024/25; works completed on the approved list to date; and additional works identified and prioritised throughout the year.
Dingwall and Seaforth Area Committee Chair, Cllr Graham MacKenzie, said: "We are pleased to have seen several road schemes completed, with some still to come to improve the local roads infrastructure for Dingwall and Seaforth.”
The total local allocation for the Ross and Cromarty area was set at £3,296,928 - a mixture of base capital and strategic allocation funds. The local area allocation for Dingwall and Seaforth was £1.45 million.
The list of works undertaken included inlay, surface dressing and overlay works at 11 separate locations.
The updated list of road projects for the Dingwall and Seaforth area can be found in the Area Roads report to the committee.
The committee was also given an update on the AI software that is helping to recognise and assess road defects.
The road network has been assessed using Vaisala Road AI software. A high specification mobile phone is attached to a van and the road is videoed as the van drives across the road network.
The software identifies potholes, cracking, rutting and edge deterioration, and generates a report for every 10m of road.
Indicative value of capital work currently required in Dingwall and Seaforth amounts to around £3.6 million.
Capital roads budgets for the ward in the past five years were listed as
- 21/22 £42,336
- 22/23 £170,000 (includes £100,000 ward budget to be allocated by members)
- 23/24 £84,495
- 24/25 £155,205 (excludes £1.308m strategic allocation)
- 25/26 £318,799
