Highland Council winter road condition and school closure report for Wednesday 31 December 2025

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. Highland Council road conditions report for Wednesday 31 December 2025 is as follows:

Ross and Cromarty East (as at 09:05)

All morning routes treated as planned, with low temperatures but warming up as morning progresses. No overnight issues to report.

Caithness (as at 08:08)

Wet roads all over and breezy. Positive temperatures. No winter action required, no known overnight issues to report.

Sutherland (as at 08:13)

Road surface temperatures positive over most of the area and salt levels are holding. No morning action required and no known overnight issues.

Skye and Raasay (as at 07:33)

Milder than forecast overnight. Variable road temperatures this morning with precautionary treatments running on primary and secondary routes. Drivers reporting heavy rain in south Skye with secondary route treatments stopped. Precautionary treatments still running on dry primary and secondary routes in north Skye. No overnight issues to report.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh (as at 06:33)

Light rain has been reported this morning, coinciding with negative road surface temperatures. As a precaution, selected routes have been treated. Road surface temperatures are expected to recover by mid-morning on most routes, with rain forecast to continue. No overnight issues reported.

Lochaber (as at 08:28)

All morning routes treated as planned. Low temperatures. Some routes have had drizzly showers with some black ice forming due to low road surface temperatures. No problems overnight.

Nairn (as at 07:26)

Damp roads with the odd frost patch on lower routes. Ice and frost on high routes. All routes being treated as well as footpaths. No known overnight issues.

Inverness (as at 08:56)

No winter action, no known issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey (as at 07:27)

Damp roads with frost and ice patches across the network. All routes being treated as well as footpaths. No known overnight issues.
