Gritting Policy

Met Office - A Yellow warning for rain (external link) is in force for western and northern Scotland until 10:00 on Monday morning and warns of 40-60mm of rain quite widely, with up to 80-100mm possible over higher ground in the west.  

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Mid and East Ross, and Black Isle

Positive road surface temperatures with wind, rain and surface water in places. No winter action taken. No overnight issues reported. 

Caithness

Road surface temperatures above zero, snow thawing fast and with a risk of flooding in areas. No overnight issue reported. 

Sutherland

All Primary routes mainly black wet roads. Secondary routes starting to turn black but still some hard packed snow and ice sections. Road surface temperatures above zero. Risk of flooding in areas due to snow melt. Caution on routes advised. 

Skye and Raasay

Wet and breezy start. Positive road temperatures, no winter action. No known overnight issues. 

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh

No winter action. Positive temperatures with strong winds and very wet roads. No overnight issues reported. 

Lochaber

No winter action. Heavy rain and strong winds overnight, positive road surface temperatures. No known issues overnight. 

Nairn

Inverness
