The Highland Council’s Sutherland County Committee has agreed garage and garage-site rents for 2026/27 at its meeting on 16 February 2026.
Members agreed to a rent increase of 5% for Sutherland garages and garage sites held within the Council’s Housing Revenue Account reflecting local priorities at a local level.
The Council currently manages 132 garages and garage sites in Sutherland County generating, £33,167.52 per year in rent income. Garage rents vary for Council and non-Council tenants because VAT must be added for non-Council tenants.
Councillor Richard Gale, Chair of Sutherland County Committee, said: “We want to ensure that any rent increases are fair, affordable and reflect local priorities. We’ve looked carefully at the implications at ward level and appreciate that any rise has an impact. The additional income from rent increases will be reinvested back into repairs and maintenance of our garages stock.”
