Issued on behalf of The Returning Officer
The Returning Officer for the Highlands has issued a letter today (Monday 23 February), advising all voters affected by the boundary review carried out by Boundaries Scotland. The letter explains how the changes will affect them for the upcoming Scottish Parliamentary Elect taking place on Thursday 7 May 2026.
Voters will be advised in the letter that their address will fall into another constituency. For example, some voters use to voting as part of the Inverness and Nairn Constituency, will now, following the boundary changes, be voting as part of the Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch Constituency in the upcoming Scottish Parliamentary election,
These legislative changes by Boundaries Scotland have been introduced to support fair and balanced representation across Highland constituencies.
Details are provided on the Boundaries Scotland website. There is also an easy to use postcode search feature that identifies which Highland constituency you will be voting in.
Returning Officer Derek Brown said: “Anyone affected by these boundary changes will receive a letter explaining changes that affect which constituency they will be voting in. I’d like to reassure anyone who receives a letter that all of your voting arrangements, including your polling station location and existing postal or proxy voting arrangements will remain the same.
Information about the Scottish Parliamentary Election and a list of all candidates standing will be published on The Highland Council’s website from 5pm onwards on Wednesday 1 April 2026.
If anyone has any questions about boundary changes, they should contact the Election Office via election@highland.gov.uk or 01349 886657
