The Highland Council has opened nominations for its Staff Recognition Awards, celebrating the excellence, dedication and achievements of staff who make a positive difference to Highland communities.
With a workforce of more than 10,000 people, the Council provides a range of vital public services that support people, families, businesses, and communities across the Highlands.
This year, selected award categories will be open for nominations from members of the public, community groups, and partner organisations, providing an opportunity for communities to recognise those who have gone above and beyond in delivering services and making a difference to people's lives.
Convener of The Highland Council, Cllr Bill Lobban, said: “As the largest employer in the Highlands, our staff play a vital role in supporting communities every day - from caring for vulnerable people and educating our children and young people, to maintaining our roads and infrastructure, building houses, delivering essential local services and supporting the local economy.
“We know the Council can often face challenge, which can be difficult for our hard-working and dedicated staff whose achievements are not always visible. These awards are about saying thank you to our staff, acknowledging the role they play in public service, and the positive impact they have on local people and the communities we serve.”
Award categories open to members of the public to nominate:
- Working in partnership
This award recognises individuals, teams or projects that have demonstrated outstanding collaboration to deliver better outcomes for people and communities. Partnerships may be internal, across services, or involve communities, organisations and partners from the public, private or third sectors.
- Tackling inequalities and strengthening communities
This award recognises individuals, teams or projects that have made a meaningful contribution to reducing inequalities, addressing local challenges, or strengthening communities.
- Going the extra mile
This award recognises an individual, team or group that has gone above and beyond expectations to make a positive difference. We’re looking for examples of exceptional commitment, outstanding service or extraordinary effort, resulting in actions which have had a significant impact on people, communities or council services.
- Unlocking potential
This award recognises an individual or team that has enabled others to grow, develop and achieve positive change. This could include an individual who supports children or young people to build confidence, develop skills, overcome barriers or realise opportunities.
The deadline for nominations is 5pm on Friday 2 October 2026.

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 3 December 2026.
The Council is currently seeking sponsorship from local businesses and organisations to fully fund the awards ceremony.
