Numbering of new properties
We number properties to help people find them.
A full address includes:
- house number or name
- street name
- town
- postcode
When numbering properties, we follow these guidelines:
- use the street the property is accessed from
- even numbers on one side, odd on the other
- numbers increase as you move away from the start of the street
- in a cul-de-sac, number properties clockwise
- do not skip numbers (we include number 13)
All addresses follow national standards (BS7666:2006 and Scottish Gazetteer Conventions).
There is a fee for this service.
