We are here to support communities who want to take local action to help clear snow and ice from footpaths during winter. Through our Winter Resilience Programme, we provide practical assistance to help volunteers stay safe and effective.
What we provide
Community volunteers, working through their local community council, can access:
- salt (in grit bins for urban areas or in heaps for rural areas, with larger heaps - up to 10 tonnes - available for central locations like car parks or village squares)
- shovels and snow pushers
- gloves and hi-visibility vests
- health and safety advice for registered volunteers
- equipment and training, coordinated by your local Area Office
How to apply
Community groups, volunteer organisations, and individuals can get involved by phoning or emailing their local area office.
Alternatively, you can download the application form and guidance notes. Once completed and approved by your community council, return the form to your local Roads Area Office. They will be in touch to finalise arrangements.
