Introduction
The Highland Council is committed to tackling the climate emergency. One way we are doing this is by expanding our electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across the region.
We currently host over 90 public EV charge points.
Why we are investing in EV infrastructure
Our EV programme supports national commitments to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles:
- the Scottish Government plans to phase out the need for new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030
- the UK Government plans to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars (excluding some hybrids) from 2030
A small EV Infrastructure project team, based in the Climate Change and Energy Team (Infrastructure and Environment Services), is delivering this work and planning future development.
