Dietary preferences and restrictions
Vegetarian choice
We now offer a daily vegetarian option as part of our standard menu, so a separate special diet request is not necessary for vegetarian meals.
'Free from' diets
We aim to provide 'free from' diets to accommodate medical, religious, ethical, and cultural needs - for example, gluten-free, egg-free, or pork-free options. However, it is important to note that some ingredients may carry a risk of trace contamination due to factory processing. Information about these products is available upon request from Catering Services.
To ensure we can meet your child’s dietary needs, we ask that you submit your menu choices from the relevant 'free from' menu at least one week in advance. This allows the kitchen team to order and prepare the appropriate ingredients in time. You will be provided with a 4 week pre-order form when your special diet request has been approved. If you need a new form, ask the school, or email special.diets@highland.gov.uk. Menu choices are to be submitted directly to the school kitchens.
Foods with controlled ingredients that may be included under supervision
Some children with food allergies or intolerances may be able to tolerate small amounts of the allergen. Additionally, a child who reacts to a specific component in one food (such as milk protein or gluten in wheat) may still tolerate it in another form (such as yoghurt or oats). To ensure we can provide appropriate meals, include detailed information on the form, including a list of specific foods that are tolerated or should be avoided.
