School transport

When transport is provided

Transport may not be from your doorstep. Your child may need to walk:

  • up to 2 miles to a pick-up point for primary school pupils
  • up to 3 miles to a pick-up point for secondary school pupils

We assume pupils will be accompanied by a responsible adult if needed.

You must make arrangements if your child:

  • only attends part of the school day
  • needs to leave school for appointments

When transport is not provided

Your child will not get free transport if they attend a school outside of their catchment area.

Other situations where transport may be available

If you do not meet the above criteria, you may still get help with transport if:

  • we have allocated your child to a different school due to a lack of places or specific support needs
  • your child attends a Gaelic Medium School in the catchment area (transport may not be provided to remote areas if journey times are too long)
  • your child has moved out of the current school's catchment but is in S4, S5 or S6 and wants to stay at the same school for the rest of the academic year, and transport can be reasonably arranged
