The Highland Council are responsible for maintaining many of the roads across The Highlands, along with associated infrastructure and highways assets. As part of our service we assess applications received from organisations or members of the public regarding requests relating to:
- road closures or diversion routes
- suspension of a one-way street
- suspension of parking
As part of process associated with TTRO’s we may also receive objections to TTRO’s from members of the public.
You are giving us your personal information to allow us to determine whether your application for a temporary traffic regulation order can be approved.
We may also use your information, where required, to contact you by e-mail or telephone.

Processing your personal information is necessary for the performance of the administration of TTROs.
Our legal basis for processing your personal information is:
- Article 6(1)(c) Legal obligation – processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation under
- Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984;
- The Local Authorities' Traffic Orders (Procedure) (Scotland) Regulations 1999; and
- Article 6(1)(e) Public task – in relation to actions in the public interest under our statutory powers under these acts such as hearings or public meetings

- Who we share your information with

We share your information with TrueViewVisuals (TVV), who provide and support the software used to process and manage TTRO and TRO requests. The Highland Council are still the data controller.
- How long we hold your information

We only keep your personal information for the minimum amount of time necessary. Sometimes this time period is set out in the law, but in most cases it is based on the business need. We maintain a records retention and disposal schedule which sets out how long we hold different types of information for.
Retention schedule for TTROs is as follows:
- Rejected Application - 6 months
- Approved Application - 1 year
- Temporary Traffic Notice or Order - 3 years
- Automated processing
