Bikeability Scotland

Instructors and volunteers

We have secured funding to recruit dedicated Bikeability instructors. These instructors are qualified cycle trainers and can support schools across the Highland Authority area. This support is available to schools that require an additional instructor to deliver Bikeability sessions.

Get involved with Bikeability Scotland

Interested in volunteering with your local school? You do not need to be a cycling expert to become a Bikeability Scotland instructor. If you are confident riding a bike and have some experience, you are eligible to train as an instructor.

We offer a Bikeability Scotland Instructor course (2 half-day sessions) that prepares you to deliver Levels 1 and 2. This training is free of charge for anyone supporting Bikeability Scotland in schools - whether you are volunteering or working as part of a school or local authority.

Not confident on a bike? You can still play a vital role. Volunteers are needed to help with:

  • bike and clothing checks
  • supporting children with feedback
  • acting as road monitors during on-road training

Let your school know you are interested in helping out - your support makes a difference.

Training for staff and volunteers

School staff and volunteers can be trained to deliver Bikeability sessions in their school. This can be done independently or with support from the Bikeability Scotland Coordinator. To become a qualified instructor, participants must complete the Bikeability Scotland Instructor (BSI) course, which takes place over two half-day sessions.

You can find more details and view upcoming course dates on the Cycling Scotland website.

If there are no suitable course dates or locations available, to discuss alternative options get in touch with the Bikeability Scotland Coordinator.
