What is Universal Credit?
Universal Credit is a monthly payment from the UK Government to help people with living costs. It’s for those who are on a low income, out of work, or unable to work.
Universal Credit does not include help with Council Tax, but you can request Council Tax Reduction during your application.
If you are eligible, your details will be sent to your local council automatically, so you do not need to fill out a separate form with us.
Eligibility
You may be eligible for Universal Credit if you:
- are on a low income or out of work
- are 18 or over (some exceptions apply if you are 16 or 17)
- are under State Pension age (or your partner is)
- and your partner have £16,000 or less in savings between you
- live in the UK
If you are eligible for Universal Credit
If you make an application for Universal Credit, you will be asked if you also need help towards paying your Council Tax. If you say yes, the DWP will forward your details to us to process your claim for Council Tax Reduction.
