Benefit cap

The 'benefit cap' means there is a maximum amount of benefit that a working-age household, defined as an individual, their partner, and any children they are responsible for and who live with them, can be entitled to.

This applies to the combined income from the main out-of-work benefits, plus Housing Benefit, Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits.
