Condensation, damp and mould: advice for tenants

Condensation is common in homes and can lead to damp and mould if not managed.

What is condensation?

Condensation happens when warm, moist air touches a cold surface like a window or wall. If the moisture does not dry or get wiped away, it can lead to black mould.

You may see condensation:

  • on windows and sills
  • in corners of rooms with poor airflow
  • on walls, wallpaper, paintwork or furniture
