Safety in your home
As a Highland Council tenant, you are responsible for keeping your home safe, secure and in good condition.
This means taking steps to prevent damage, reporting issues, and protecting your home when you are away.
What you should do
To help keep your home safe:
- know where your stopcock is in case you need to turn off the water
- keep your home warm and well ventilated to avoid damp and condensation
- test your smoke alarms regularly
- never use paraffin or bottled gas heaters – these are not allowed in council homes
- let us know if you plan to be away for more than 4 weeks
