Introduction
If you are on a low income, you may be eligible for help with your rent or Council Tax through:
- Housing Benefit
- Universal Credit Housing Element
You may also be assessed for free school meals and school clothing grants.
Eligibility for Housing Benefit
You may qualify if:
- you are on a low income
- you pay rent
- you do not rent from a close relative who lives with you
- your savings and capital are under £16,000 (unless you receive Guarantee Pension Credit)
- you are not receiving Universal Credit
Additionally, if you are:
- aged 18 to 21: You may be eligible for Universal Credit to help with rent
- working age: Apply for help with rent through Universal Credit
- pension age: You may still be eligible for Housing Benefit
