Electric vehicle infrastructure

Tariff information

A usage tariff applies to all public EV charge points owned by The Highland Council.

Tariff information is also available on the ChargePlace Scotland website. Signage is installed at all sites to notify users of the tariff.

Types of EV chargers

We offer two types of chargers:

  • journey chargers (up to 43–50kW) – for quick top-ups or unplanned journeys
  • destination chargers (up to 7–22kW) – for longer stays, such as shopping, working, or overnight parking

Tariff rates

Journey chargers

  • 70p per kWh
  • £1 minimum charge
  • overstay charge of £1 per minute after 45 minutes
  • maximum overstay fee of £30 if plugged in for more than 60 minutes
  • additional £30 Penalty Charge may be issued by Parking Attendants

These measures help ensure chargers are available for drivers who need a rapid top-up.

Destination chargers

  • 35p per kWh
  • £1 minimum charge
  • no overstay fee

Tariff changes

On 2 February 2023, the Economy and Infrastructure Committee approved a tariff increase for all Highland Council-owned EV charge points.

Signage is being updated across the region. Due to the size of the area, this is taking longer than expected, but we aim to complete it soon.
