Dark Skies
We are consulting on draft guidance aimed at reducing light pollution across Highland,
The guidance aims to:
- protect the environment
- support night sky tourism
- improve human wellbeing
It encourages the use of outdoor lighting only where necessary and promotes designs that minimise harmful effects.
It will also form the basis of a future policy within the new Highland Local Development Plan (HLDP) and support communities wishing to pursue Dark Sky area status.

We want to hear from all:
- residents
- communities
- businesses
- developers
After the consultation period ends, responses will be reviewed, and any proposed amendments will be brought to Members for consideration before the guidance is finalised.
