Description
We are legally obliged under the Local Government Finance Act 1992 to collect and administer Council Tax.  The administration relates to statutory instruments, and regulations: valuation, transitional reduction, water supply, administration & enforcement and appeals regulations, liability instruments and rating and valuation. The Council is also required to administer Council Tax Reduction and Second Adult Rebate.
 
We are required to process personal data about the residents of all properties within the Council area.
 
Special categories of data may be processed to enable us to apply exemptions and other reductions based on that information.
If you do not give us your information

You are obliged to provide personal data to us and to keep us informed of any changes in your circumstances.  Failure to do this could  end any Council Tax reductions you have received and may result in prosecution.

Conditions for processing personal information

Legal obligation. We are legally obliged to process this data. (A6(1)(c) of GDPR)
Special categories of data in relation to Council reductions are processed under Employment, social security and social protection law (A9(2)(b) of GDPR).

Data is shared with The Highland & Western Isles Valuation Joint Board, Scottish Water, HM Revenue & Customs, Department of work and Pensions, Sheriff Officers, other council services, and other local authorities.
