- Purpose
- Raising a concern under the Whistleblowing policy
- Description
-
Whistleblowing is provided for within the Employment Rights Act 1996 and protects employees who ’blow the whistle’ and is supported by the Council's Whistleblowing Policy.
Whistleblowing is the term used when a person passes on information concerning wrongdoing. The wrongdoing is typically (though not necessarily) something they have witnessed at work.
To be covered by whistleblowing law, the whistle-blower must reasonably believe that they are acting in the public interest (personal grievances and complaints are not usually covered) and that the disclosure shows past, present or future wrongdoing.
Personal data is collected as part of the whistleblowing process to enable the concerns raised to be clarified with the whistleblower and to enable allegations to be fully investigated.
