You must register with us if you run a food business. This includes any place used to:
- store food
- sell food
- distribute food
- prepare food

When you do not need to register
You do not need to register if you are:
- handling food at a one-off event
- preparing food occasionally for coffee mornings or charity events
Even if you do not need to register, you should still view the advice on safe food handling.
Using vehicles in a food business
If your food business uses vehicles, the rules depend on whether you also have permanent premises.
If you have permanent premises, you only need to tell us how many vehicles you use. You do not need to register each vehicle separately.
If you do not have permanent premises, you must tell us where the vehicles are normally kept.
