Request Gaelic medium primary education in your area

Making a request for Local Provision of Gaelic Medium Primary Education (GMPE)

The Education (Scotland) Act 2016 establishes a process that allows parents to request an assessment of the need for Gaelic Medium Primary Education (GMPE) in their area.

Statutory Guidance on Gaelic Education has been published by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the public body responsible for the Gaelic language. This guidance includes information on the GMPE assessment process, as well as general details on how Gaelic education is currently delivered across Scotland. The statutory guidance is available from Education Scotland.

How to request a GMPE assessment

Initially, you should contact the Gaelic team to enquire about your child's access to GMPE.

If you decide to request an assessment of the need for GMPE for your child, ensure you review the statutory guidance and prepare the necessary evidence to support your request.
