About the Highland Deposit Guarantee Scheme
We aim to help people who cannot afford a rent deposit to access private rented housing.
Instead of paying a cash deposit upfront, we give the landlord a written guarantee. This guarantee promises that we will cover certain costs if there is damage to the property at the end of the tenancy.
This means:
- you do not need to save for a deposit before moving in
- the landlord still has protection if there is damage
- you make small payments during your tenancy to build up your deposit over time
The scheme is managed by us and is available across the Highland Council area.
Who can apply
You may be able to use the scheme if you:
- have a housing need in the highlands
- are on a low income
- cannot afford a deposit by yourself
- are able to manage a tenancy with little or no support
- are aged 25 or over (younger people may be considered depending on your circumstances)
- have a local connection to the highlands
