Cairngorms National Park Authority Election

Elections are held every four years to elect 5 community representatives to serve on the Board of the Cairngorms National Park Authority. One community member will be elected for each of the 5 wards within the national park area.

Election of Board Members – 2023

The next round of elections to the Board of the Cairngorms National Park Authority is scheduled for Thursday 23 March 2023. The Park is divided into 5 electoral wards with each ward returning one member to the Board.

Following the close of nominations at 4pm on Wednesday 15 February 2023, there are more than one validly nominated candidate in Wards 1, 3, 4 and 5. As a result, an election will now take place and a copy of the statement of persons nominated for those wards is published here. 

Detailed below are the statements that candidates submitted during the nomination period for the ward in which they are standing and copies will be issued with the ballot paper.

Ballot Papers for all Wards 1, 3, 4 and 5 are being posted out on Tuesday 28 February 2023 and must be completed and returned in the pre-paid envelope provided by 2pm on Thursday 23 March 2023.  Electors are being asked to vote for One Candidate only and place a cross (X) on the ballot paper in the box next to their chosen Candidate’s name. If an elector has not received their ballot paper or inadvertently spoilt their ballot paper, then they must contact the Election Help-Line on 01349 886657 to request a replacement. Please do not destroy your spoilt ballot paper as it will have to be returned either by post or hand to the appropriate Depute Returning Officer for a replacement to be issued.

The counting of the votes for all Wards 1, 3, 4 and 5 will take place on Thursday 23 March 2023 commencing at 5pm in the Craig Maclean Leisure Centre, Cromdale Road, Grantown-on-Spey, PH26 3HU with the results to be declared on the same day. The count can be viewed online as it will be streamed live on The Highland Council YouTube channel, the CNPA Election webpage and our Twitter and Facebook channels, You can set up a notification reminder by going to our YouTube channel and clicking on ‘Notify Me’.

 

For each individual ward the votes will be counted and the candidate with the most votes will be elected to serve on the Board.

There will be no poll held for Ward 2, as not more than one candidate was nominated, and by not later than 11am on the day of election (Thursday 23 March 2023), Lauren MacCallum shall be declared to be elected to the Cairngorms National Park Authority Board.

All candidates must submit their return of election expenses by no later than Thursday, 27 April 2023.
