Blue Badge scheme

The Blue Badge scheme helps people with severe mobility problems park closer to their destination. It supports independence and access to services.

A Blue Badge is issued to a person, not a vehicle. You can use it when you travel as a driver or a passenger.

Eligibility

Some people automatically qualify for a Blue Badge. Examples include if you receive:

  • Adult Disability Payment (ADP)
    • 8 points or more in the ‘moving around’ activity
    • 12 points in the ‘planning and following a journey’ activity
    • the enhanced rate of the mobility component under Special Rules for Terminal Illness
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
    • You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you get the higher rate of the mobility component.
  • Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance (Scottish Adult DLA)
    • You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you get the higher rate of the mobility component.
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
    • scored 8 points or more in the 'moving around' area of your assessment
    • scored 12 points in the 'planning and following a journey' area of your assessment
    • used to get the higher rate of the mobility component of DLA on an indefinite or lifetime basis
  • Child Disability Payment (CDP)
    • You automatically qualify for a Blue Badge if you get the higher rate of the mobility component.

Check if you are automatically eligibile
