Future ambitions
Community consultations in 2018 and 2019 identified many project ideas. Some were included in the FW2040 Masterplan and can be found on the map of projects, while others remain aspirational projects.
Aspirational projects can be added to the FW2040 Masterplan if they show a sufficient level of:
- feasibility
- community and stakeholder support
- commitment from delivery partners
During FW2040 Programme Board meetings partners will:
- review the progress of aspirational projects
- consider new project suggestions
- decide whether projects should be added to the Masterplan
Projects that support the priorities of the Lochaber Area Place Plan are especially encouraged.
You can suggest new project ideas through:
- community consultation and engagement events
- the FW2040 Community Stakeholders' Group

FW2040 Aspirational Project Suggestions
A range of project ideas suggested by the community, most of which came from the 2018 and 2019 consultations, are not currently part of the FW2040 Masterplan. The projects vary in size and type. Some have since been included within alternative projects or are being considered through other work programmes. Others are unlikely to move forward at this time. These include suggestions such as:
- A campervan hub service point
- Land reclamation for housing
- An outdoor swimming pool at the Old Fort
- An aiport or airstrip
