Apply for Section 50 certificate for a Premises Licence

You need a planning certificate under Section 50 of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 when applying for a premises licence to sell alcohol.

This certificate confirms either:

  • planning permission has been granted for the premises in connection with its intended use as licensed premises, or
  • no planning permission is required.

You also need a Building Standards Certificate for a premises licence or to confirm a provisional licence.

The fee for this service is £75. You must pay this before submitting your Section 50 application. We cannot process your application until payment is received.

How to pay

You can pay securely online using our online payment service.

  • Select either Planning or Building Standards from the Payment category dropdown menu.
  • Then choose Section 50 (Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005) from the Payment type dropdown.
  • If you do not have a reference number, include a contact phone number.
