Recycling centres

Vehicles restrictions

We allow the following types of vehicles at recycling centres

  • cars
  • small 4x4s
  • vans or trailers under 3.5 tonnes
  • adapted vehicles for disabled use

If you are using a van or trailer, you must book a time slot at certain sites.

The following types of vehicles are not allowed to use Household Waste Recycling Centres:

  • vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 3,500kg or more
  • tippers and flat-bed trucks of any weight
  • trailers with more than one axle or longer than 2.4 metres
  • plant vehicles

How to check your vehicle’s weight

You can find the maximum gross vehicle weight (MGVW) on the manufacturer’s identification plate.

Where to find the plate

All vans must have a manufacturer’s identification plate by law. It is usually located under the bonnet or inside the driver-side or passenger-side door frame

What to look for

The plate shows the maximum gross vehicle weight. If the weight is 3,500kg or more, the vehicle cannot use the recycling site.
