Storage and disposal of upholstered furniture

Upholstered furniture such as sofas, chairs, and beanbags need to go into a separate container at Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

Separating upholstered furniture helps manage harmful chemicals called Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). These chemicals are found in some materials used in furniture.

For more information read SEPA’s guidance on POPs.
