Apply for a card

You can apply for a travel card if you are over 60, have a disability or are aged 5 to 21. This page explains how to apply and what documents you need.

If your child is between 5 and 15 years old, their parent or guardian will need to apply on their behalf. Children 16 years or older can apply for their own travel card.

Evidence you will need

The evidence you need to provide depends on the type of travel card you are applying for.

Disabled people

You will need to provide proof of your disability dated within the last 12 months.

Young people (aged 5 to 15)

For children aged 15 and under, you will need to provide:

  • birth certificate
  • parent or guardian’s ID and address
  • photo ID for the child if they have one, or a referee (only a requirement for children 12 and older)

If your child is aged 12 or older, proof of their address is needed.

If your child already has a card, parental consent is needed for free travel.

Young people aged 16 and over

You will need to provide:

  • proof of ID and address
  • passport-style photo

If you already have a card, send your name, date of birth, address and updated photo if needed.
