How we make decisions
When deciding whether to grant a placing request, we prioritise children in the following order:
- Children living in the Highland Council area.
- Children with medical or support needs best met at the school.
- Children with siblings already attending the school.
- Children from a capped catchment school.
- Children attending an associated primary school (for S1 only).
- The proximity of the child's residence to the school.
- Road safety and ease of travel.
Reasons a placing request may be refused
We may refuse a placing request to ensure places are available for children moving into the catchment area or for the following reasons:
- It would require hiring an additional teacher.
- Major modifications to the school building or facilities would be necessary.
- The request could disrupt the child's education.
- It could negatively impact the discipline or well-being of other pupils.
- An extra class or teacher would be needed in future years.
- The school’s capacity would be exceeded, even if space is available in individual classes.
- The education provided would not be suitable for the child's age, ability, or special needs.
- The child has previously been removed from the school by the Council.
