Single-use vapes

Ban on single-use vapes in Scotland

From 1 June 2025, it is illegal to sell or supply single-use vapes anywhere in the UK. This includes online and in-store sales.

Under the Environmental Protection (Single-Use Vapes) (Scotland) Regulations 2024, a single-use vape is a device that:

  • cannot be refilled
  • cannot be recharged

If a vape meets both criteria, it is considered single-use and is banned from sale. This includes:

  • All single-use vapes, whether or not they contain nicotine
  • All forms of sale or supply, including online
  • Possession of single-use vapes for sale

Who does the ban apply to

The ban applies to all businesses and organisations that sell or supply vapes, including:

  • retailers (shops, market stalls, petrol stations, vape shops)
  • wholesalers and importers
  • manufacturers
  • healthcare settings and stop smoking services
