Care leavers
If a home is only lived in by care leavers, it does not have to pay Council Tax.
Additionally, if someone in the home is a care leaver, they may not be included when calculating the household's Council Tax liability.
A care leaver is someone who:
- is aged 18 or over but under 26
- was looked after by a local authority at any time after their 16th birthday
- is no longer being looked after by a local authority
If you are unsure if you qualify, you can get more information from the Scottish Government definitions and policies.
