Private Landlord Registration

Overview

If you rent out residential property in the Highlands, you must register as a private landlord with us unless you qualify for an exemption. The law requires registration to improve standards in the private rented sector and to ensure landlords are 'fit and proper' to let property.

These pages explain:

  • how to register and what information you need
  • any consequences for not submitting a valid application
  • what happens if you are found to not be 'fit and proper' when registering
  • what to do when you have a change of circumstances
