Play areas in the Highlands

What we aim to provide

The Highlands is one of nature’s wonderful playgrounds with access to some of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas in the world.

The Highland Council currently look after over 300 active, open, equipped play areas which, are spread right across the Highlands in both rural and urban locations. It is the Council's aim to provide exciting, stimulating, inclusive, and accessible play areas.

A list of all play parks in the Highlands is available.

We want all children to have access to:

  • fun and exciting places to play
  • safe and inclusive spaces
  • equipment that suits different ages and abilities
  • natural and creative play features

Not all play areas need swings or slides. Some use natural features like:

  • grassy mounds
  • tunnels and boulders
  • painted games on hard surfaces, like hopscotch

These can be just as fun and help children use their imagination.
