Play areas in the Highlands

Support for communities

In this uncertain economic climate, there have been many dedicated and hardworking local communities who have been incredible in managing to source funding to refurbish or redevelop existing play areas and this is to be encouraged!

The Council can support more local communities by signposting them to funding opportunities and advising them on suitable equipment choices, site layout and inclusive provisions. The Council will also monitor equipment installations where required.

Upgrading a playpark is an exciting challenge which will leave a legacy for years to come. If you are interested in upgrading your local playpark, the link below will lead you to our Step by Step Guide.

The Highland Council Amenities team takes play provision seriously; we have a dedicated Playpark Strategist who can support you with upgrading your local playpark; and a dedicated team of Play Technicians ensuring play areas are safe. The Technicians undertake inspections, and carry out repairs & installations.

Many local groups have raised money to improve their play areas. We can help by:

  • advising on funding opportunities
  • helping choose equipment and layout
  • making sure designs are inclusive
  • checking installations if needed
