Impacts considered
Each impact assessment considers effects on:
- equalities, poverty, and human rights
- children’s rights and wellbeing
- data protection
- island and mainland rural communities
- climate change
Children's Rights and Wellbeing Impact Assessment (CRWIA)
This assesses how a decision might affect the rights and wellbeing of children and young people, based on the articles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Children's rights are incorporated into Scots law, making it unlawful for Councils to act incompatibly with the articles of the UNCRC.
Climate Change Impact Assessment (CCIA)
This assessment is a key part of our Net Zero Strategy. It ensures that net zero targets and responsibilities are embedded in decision-making. The CCIA evaluates how a decision or proposal could positively or negatively impact emissions, regional biodiversity, and our capacity to adapt to and build resilience against climate change effects.
Equalities, Poverty and Human Rights Impact Assessment (EQIA)
This demonstrates compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty, which protects individuals with protected characteristics from discrimination and inequality. Alongside impact assessments on protected characteristics, it considers socioeconomic impacts in line with the Fairer Scotland Duty and impacts on Human Rights.
Island and Mainland Rural Communities Impact Assessment (IMRCIA)
This assesses impacts likely to significantly affect island or rural mainland communities differently from other communities, including impacts on other island communities. The islands element of this assessment aligns with the requirements of the Islands (Scotland) Act 2018.
Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA)
This ensures that personal data processing complies with the principles outlined in the UK GDPR and our Data Protection Policy.
