Approval process for MPs or MSPs visits
Notifications of visits to schools - whether initiated directly by an MP or MSP, through a Head Teacher, or another staff member - should be sent to ecoel.support@highland.gov.uk. The request will be referred to the relevant Head of Education or Chief Officer, or their nominated senior officer, for approval. Such requests will be considered promptly after consultation with the relevant Head Teacher.
It will be at the discretion of the Head of Education or Chief Officer to determine the scope and conditions of the visit and whether other Council officers should be involved to support it.
If the visit is authorised, the school will issue an invitation and confirm with the MP or MSP the arrangements to facilitate the visit.
There may be situations when a visit is not appropriate - for example, during exam periods - and the reason for any refusal will be clearly communicated to the MP or MSP.
The Education Service will ensure that the Corporate Communications Office and the Policy Manager are informed of any proposed visits by MPs or MSPs.
