Apply for a permit

Before applying for a road opening permit, make sure you have ready:

  • two paper copies of detailed drawings showing the proposed works and construction methods
  • a scanned copy of your contractor’s Street Works Licence card
  • third-party insurance documentation

Ensure your contractor is aware of and prices any conditions attached to the consent. 

Applications must be submitted at least 28 days before the intended start date. The Roads Authority must give 10 working days’ notice to any utility provider whose apparatus may be affected.

Apply for a road opening permit

Consent is valid only for the dates shown on the permit. You must notify us immediately of the actual start and end dates.

Additional permissions

This consent only covers approval from the Roads Authority. You may still need:

  • landlord or superior’s consent
  • planning permission
  • building warrant
