What you can put in your household bins

Recycling contamination

We will not collect your recycling bin if it contains the wrong items.

What we mean by contamination

Contamination is when non-recyclable items are put in your recycling bins. This can spoil the whole load and stop it from being recycled.

We will not collect your bins if they contain:

  • food waste
  • black bags
  • nappies
  • textiles
  • electrical items
  • garden waste
  • general rubbish

What happens if your bin is contaminated

If your bin is contaminated:

  • we will leave a sticker on it to let you know
  • you must remove the wrong items before your next collection
  • we will not collect the bin while it remains contaminated

How we can help

Our waste team can give you advice on what goes in each bin.

We may visit your home to help if there are repeated problems.
