If you request home schooling
If you request that your child be home schooled:
- an Education Support Officer will contact the family to discuss the request
- parents or guardians will be given an opportunity to explain their provision of home education
- parents or guardians can choose whether to provide a written outline of their educational approach or to have a meeting with the authority
- parents or guardians will receive a letter informing them whether the request has been approved or if further information is needed
If consent is granted, the child's name will be removed from the school roll. From this point, parents or guardians become responsible for providing their child with an effective and suitable education.
At all stages, we will seek to enable the child to express their views if they wish to do so.
If consent is refused, we must clearly state the reasons for the refusal. Parents or guardians will have the opportunity to address these reasons and to resubmit their request if they wish.
