Preventing and responding to bullying

Every child’s right to safety, inclusion and respect

All children and young people in Highland have the right to feel safe, respected and included at school. Bullying can seriously affect a child’s wellbeing, learning and development, and it is the responsibility of everyone in the school community to prevent it and respond effectively when it occurs.

This guidance supports a consistent approach across Highland schools and education settings. It is informed by national policy, including the Equality Act 2010 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). It reflects the voices of young people who helped shape the policy through consultation.
