Preventing and responding to bullying

Recording and monitoring bullying incidents

Accurate and consistent recording of bullying incidents is essential. It ensures that concerns are taken seriously, that appropriate action is taken, and that schools can monitor patterns over time.

All incidents must be recorded in the pupil’s personal record and in SEEMiS as a significant event. Records should include:

  • a factual account of what happened
  • the names of those involved, including witnesses
  • the type of bullying and any underlying prejudice
  • actions taken and outcomes

This information helps schools evaluate their responses, identify training needs, and improve their practice. It also ensures transparency and accountability.
