Adapting your home to your needs

Housing association tenants

If you are a housing association tenant experiencing difficulties at home due to a disability or health condition, assistance may be available to adapt your property.

Speak to your landlord first

Each housing association has its own policy for providing home adaptations. You should contact your landlord initially to find out what support they offer.

How to request adaptations for your home

Get in touch with your local Health and Social Care Team and ask them to assess your needs:

An Occupational Therapist will evaluate your needs and communicate with your landlord about the necessary changes. After the assessment, your landlord will discuss next steps and timelines.

If adaptations are not feasible or are too costly, other housing options may be considered. Be aware that waiting times to see an Occupational Therapist can vary, and you will be advised of the expected wait.
