School contributions
New homes can increase pressure on local schools.
If existing schools do not have enough capacity, developers must contribute towards expanding or building new schools.
Key points
- Areas where extra school capacity is likely to be needed, and the contribution levels, are set out in the Highland Delivery Programme
- One bed homes are exempt from education contributions. Two bed flats or homes are subject to a reduced rate
- School contributions are based on School Roll Forecasts and Pupil Product Ratios
From 4 May 2023, an updated approach to education applies to all planning applications.
