Community facilities contributions
New homes can increase pressure on local community facilities.
If a shortfall has been identified, developments of four or more homes require to contribute towards improving or creating new community facilities.
Key points
- Contributions will normally apply to either indoor or outdoor facilities, but not typically both
- Areas where community facility deficiencies have been identified are usually linked to the relevant secondary school catchment area
- Areas where extra capacity is known to be needed, and the contribution levels, are set out in the Highland Delivery Programme
- For large-scale developments, the need for on-site or off-site provision will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
From 4 May 2023, an updated approach to community facilities contributions applies to all planning applications.
