Cold Call Control Zones

How Cold Call Control Zones help prevent doorstep crime

Every home in a zone receives a Residents’ Information Pack, which includes:

  • advice on dealing with unexpected doorstep callers
  • guidance on how to report incidents
  • information about trusted trader schemes

Door stickers

Each home is given a double-sided door sticker:

  • one side provides advice for the resident
  • the other side warns doorstep traders that cold calling is not welcome

These stickers help protect vulnerable residents without identifying them individually.

Street signs

Signs are placed on lamp posts throughout the area to show that the zone is active. This acts as a deterrent to rogue traders.

Is it illegal for traders to enter a zone?

No - it is not illegal. But the signs and stickers make it clear that cold calling is discouraged, which helps reduce unwanted visits.

Why reporting matters

Zones encourage residents to report doorstep crime. This helps Trading Standards respond quickly and build a clearer picture of local issues.
