Materials and costs for setting up a Cold Call Control Zone
Once you have decided to go ahead with your zone, you will need to source the following materials:
Street signs
Street signs let traders know they are entering a Cold Call Control Zone and that cold calling is not welcome.
- we can help you decide where to place signs
- we can advise on suppliers
- you will need to contact the Roads, Flooding and Street Lighting service to arrange installation
Door stickers
Each home in the zone should receive a double-sided door sticker:
- outward-facing side: warns traders that cold calling is not welcome
- inward-facing side: provides residents with contact details for reporting incidents

Residents’ information packs
Educating residents is key to the success of your zone. Each household should receive a pack that includes:
- introduction letter – Download template (customisable)
- buying on the doorstep booklet– View online as a flipbook
- nominated neighbour scheme – Materials available on the Police Scotland website
- doorstep caller checklist – Helps residents record details of any doorstep callers, for example, time, appearance, vehicle
Printing tip:
Print in colour where possible, especially for booklets and documents with logos. This helps your zone look professional and credible.
